Men in Color

Yes, men really can wear self patterning socks with the colors of peach, coral, lavender, and earth tones. I can easily see Jerome wearing these as his style is so versatile. This colorway is so interesting and is an unusual style for the Doc. But................ he needs more wool socks and these are going quickly so will end up in hubby's sock drawer before too many days pass.

Knitting in the Car

While Jeff drove, I finished my new socks and have nearly finished one of his.

Homes In Colorado

We actually toured homes in Colorado today and many fit all of our criteria. Here's a nice example.

Thanksgiving Day

After a huge breakfast, a long walk in 12 degrees temperatures, preparing stuffing on the stove to shove into the cavity, the bird finally went into the oven at 10:30.

Kitty's water was frozen, again, and he doesn't really care. He knows to sip from the inside bowl. He also likes to supervise Jeff doing yardwork.

The chunks of ice never did thaw; it only got up to 23 degrees on Thanksgiving Day.

There was lots of cooking today.

Jeff was in charge of the nut cups, a family tradition.

The brothers strung Christmas lights while waiting for the turkey to finish cooking.

Younger brother did some yardwork; most of the leaves are now gone!

Done! All loose ends are woven in and it's ready to wear! Tonight it will be 3 degrees; time to wear all wool clothing as we walk!

I have three pair going at once but one pair of socks is nearly complete! Yay!

Spring Arrived! & Scarf Progress

It's nice and warm (60 degrees!) so hard to get interested in finishing this wool scarf. However, there's been some progress.

Waking Up This Morning

Sooooooooooo pretty!! Such a fun surprise! There was also some ice under the snow on the sidewalk so a bit treacherous when we took the trash to the curb this morning.

He requested a scarf last night, and I already had one for him on my needles. His scarf is moved into the priority #1 slot!

Walking At Night

Earlier in the afternoon, there were very strong winds, enough to close down I-70 due to poor visibility, and snow mixed with rain. The flakes were huge and wet so had difficulty sticking but were enough to make the roads and everything else very wet. We walked in early evening in the cold and wet and admired the Christmas lights at Southglenn. Everything is slowly being pointed towards Christmas. WAIT! We haven't celebrated Thanksgiving yet!!

We went into the candy store for treats and also to warm up a bit. Hubby said he really needed a scarf; the cold wind was blowing down his jacket at the neck!

Raggy Bag Finished

This rag bag tote is adorable with a long strap for carrying and inside pockets for special treasures. It's supposed to take four hours from start to finish but as with most sewing projects, the cutting out is most time consuming. The actual sewing took me about an hour.

What goes inside?? Yarn projects, of course!! The wool blend is Jeff's latest pair of socks.

9-Patch Rag Bag

Since sewing requires room, I went to the store classroom to sew the 9-Patch Rag Bag sample for Friday's class. It is adorable and in the dryer right now. I'll post pics soon.

Work of Human Hands

I am soooooo thankful for the gift of needlework. Knitting comes so easily for me and it's not my doing. It is a true gift and I thank YOU! I finished knitting the hood last night while Jeff and I watched a silly movie called Couples Retreat. This morning I bound off using the three needle bind off. Now to weave in any loose ends and to work around the buttonholes. I might single crochet along the front button band too. I'll decide after seeing how nicely the front hangs.

Divine Work

My walk this morning allowed me to fully appreciate God's gift of weather. The snow was wet and gentle and so quiet. Little feet prints from elementary school kids were all along the sidewalk from their short jaunt to classes. Birds have hidden and are not in their birdhouse but the snow is predicted to cease and sun should appear before noon.

Creative University at Jo Ann's

This is a scarf we teach, a honeycomb cable pattern, and very easy for me. I've been knitting aran sweaters since age 14 and love the style. Jeff will inherit this; his scarf is in storage and he needs one now for our daily walks.

I've never sewn a 9-Patch Rag Bag before so am sewing one before teaching the class. It's going to be such a cute tote with the colorful ladybugs and Debbie Mumm flannel.

January 2010 Socks Goal Revisited

My goal last January was to knit 24 pairs of adult socks this year. Last year I knit 20 pairs so I figured it would be an easy goal. Sock knitting is so portable; I knit in the car as a passenger, on flights, while waiting in line at the grocery store etc. Goal Accomplished!! I have knit 24 pairs this year. I was knitting on these, the 25th pair this year, in the dark on our return from the 4:00 Mass at St. Thomas More. Yes, it is so dark so early!! But knitting plain socks for hubby can be done in the dark! And he LOVES the wool/nylon blend sock yarns!!

Skyping with Grands

We fly to Houston on December 22 and yes, I'm already counting the days until I get to hug the babies. Skype is a great way to tide us over until Christmas vacation.

Knitting Helper

Watching the snow fall. This cute boy kitty comes to get me when he wants to go outside.

The pattern had a long separating zipper; I chose to knit in some buttonholes instead. I also knit raglan sleeves and raglan back, raglan fronts rather than the set in sleeves. I'm surprised there is no interruption in the cable pattern when I picked up stitches for the hood!

The hood is half knit. I've almost definitely decided to end with a three needle bind off rather than some short rows and bind offs as the pattern is written. I always knit my way!!

I'm determined to finish this sweater; I can be wearing it now! After finishing the hood, I need to work around the buttonholes and choose buttons. I'm hoping to find wooden buttons.
