May 28, 2019

It was loud last night: thunder, hail, some rain.  Hail remained this morning!

We woke up top 3 inches of very wet snow.

There were broken branches around town but our trees did fine.
Front garden survived well too.

New Mulch, Blooms

 Mark brought mulch yesterday; gorgeous.
Doc mowed, using next to highest level since we are very dry, and the lawn is plush. It's ready for little bare grand kids' feet!
The irises are just now opening; allium are slowly fading.

Joy and Sadness of Nature

This is 6:20 this morning and Mommy duck is out of the nest and mostly hidden by the blue salvia.
On return from my walk, I brought a water dish for Mommy and found the horrible sight.  All
four eggs were dragged from the nest and destroyed. Not eaten, DESTROYED! Leo is guessing a blue jay is the criminal.  It was incredibly sad.  I haven't seen Mommy since this morning.
On a happier note, Doc's new grapevines are growing.  This is the red vine.
Here is the white; it is closer to the house.
Irises are beginning to open.  JOY!

Honored!!

Way back, to the far right is a tall grass perennial that became Nest to the ducks!
Unaware of the nest, as I pulled weeds, momma duck hurriedly left and showed me her 4 eggs!

Ducks and Melting Snow

On my walk, I spied the duck family.

Snow lingers the farther north I walk along the greenbelt.  This is near Quail.
Happy ducks don't mind the light now.  This is near Countryside.

Don't Plant Before Mother's Day

We hear, "don't plant before Mother's Day", every year.
Two mature ducks spent much of Wednesday at The Barn.
Yes, I planted our new garden in a box plants in this garden.
Momma duck is considering my garden for her nest.
Irises are starting to get ready to bloom.
We awoke to this beautiful scene.  We love snow!
