Knit to just above wrist, work k1p1 in ribbing for three rows, then bind off. Weave in tail. I used size 1 needle for the wrist; you could also continue with size 3 needle and simply decrease 2 stitches on the first round. 
Remove stitches from second sleeve stitch holder, knit as for the first sleeve. 
Weave in all tails, sew buttons on if desired.
